We Were the Water
03:22
|
|||
Tonight we take the bus to Jupiter
It hasn’t seen the road since ‘83
I’ll find myself before I meet you there
Tripping lightly on LSD
It’s the place we are in
The place we are going
Where my thoughts just pass
And I don’t ask where they’ve been
The river keeps flowing
And for a moment there
We were the water
Should I ever let it out
What’s bottled up inside
Would you meet me by the ocean
And send this ship out on the tide
It’s killing me not to speak
But words would never do
So I’ll just let these tears ride down my cheek
It’s the place we are in
The place we are going
Where my thoughts just pass
And I don’t ask where they’ve been
The river keeps flowing
And for a moment there
We were the water
People smile as though they understand
Something we’ve just come to know
I feel surrender as I take your hand
And I’ll never let it go
But I’ve got to let it go
I’ve got to let it go
It’s the place we are in
The place we are going
Where my thoughts just pass
And I don’t ask where they’ve been
The river keeps flowing
And for a moment there
We were the water

Better Than This
03:42
|
|||
I can still feel last night’s love
And I can see the stars above, they guide me
Toward the sunrise
I left your room five in the morning
Clothes were wet my heart was warming
Up to the fact that I love you
Maybe dreams are meant to come true
And I’ve never felt like this
A million butterflies in silk cocoons, class dismissed
And they say problems always start after the second gear, the second beer
You can’t ever seem to find the brakes
And then you change me with one little kiss
Singin’ life doesn’t get much better than this
When you look into my eyes do you see just another guy
Who tried to talk you into one night stands
Never want to hold your hand
I know that there’s some residue
From years I wish I could undo
I try not to think about them
Cause they led me here to you
And I’ve never felt like this
A million butterflies in silk cocoons class dismissed
And they say problems always start after the second gear, the second beer
You can’t ever seem to find the brakes
And then you change me with one little kiss
Singin’ life doesn’t get much better than this
And they say problems always start after the second beer, they did this year
And we could never seem to find the brakes
And my rearview mirror has a crack
As if to tell me don’t look back
We’ll fall in love to see how long it takes
Until you change me with one little kiss
Singin’ life doesn’t get much better than this
Until you change me with one little kiss

Fruit Flies
03:05
|
|||
He’s quick to lift the lid on a whistlin’ tea kettle
But the toilet seat’s another thing
Her mother said she settled
For a man who’s unsophisticated
Always undermotivated
Broke and over-compensatin’
Overweight and antiquated
She listens to the songs of Johnny Cash on Sunday morning
He cooks eggs and makes another promise for new bathroom flooring
She rolls her eyes, he tells her, ‘baby, even when you’re mad at me,
I see you smiling back at me, your lips defy gravity.’
He wages war on the fruit flies
Every fourth of July
She’s too tired to cry
And the porch light keeps on flickerin’
They just keep on bickerin’
Distracting from the life they’ve never lived
Now it’s ‘I told you so’s’ and ‘look at what you did’s’
He drives to work most every Monday
In his ’06 beat-up Hyundai
She just sits at home with the lights at TV on
Now it’s commercial breaks for medication
Showcase showdown dream vacation
Getting old for having children
Dry-wall holes not getting filled in no
It’s when you’re all alone that the mind and heart will wander
She sends a final S.O.S. and takes the first responder
She tells him use the driveway cause the neighbours won’t say nothin’
There’s something to be said about minding your own damn business, alright
He wages war on the fruit flies
Every fourth of July
She’s too tired to cry
And the porch light keeps on flickerin’
They just keep on bickerin’
Distracting from the life they’ve never lived
Now it’s ‘I told you so’s’ and ‘look at what you did’s’
Now at this part of our story, the husband returns home
And in classic country cheatin’ song fashion, catches the two of them in the act
Now it’s fair to say that under normal circumstance
You’d think our main character would be irate
Hell, that’s what I’d think too
But this ain’t no ordinary story, friends
You see, he’s actually taking it well
Closes his eyes, takes a deep breath
And thinks back to something his daddy told him when he was just a boy
‘Son, if you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em.’
He wages war on the fruit flies
Every fourth of July
She’s too tired to cry
Now he’s taking turns with both of them
Love just keeps on opening
Thank you, Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ
This Monday afternoon sure turned out nice
Then he reaches underneath the bed
Pulls out a revolver and shoots them both dead
The end.

Whiskey Songs
03:36
|
|||
There’s times when a man needs to be alone by an old, orange campfire,
A cold beer, a pen, and paper, mosquitos sucking like vampires,
Drown out the world on a summer night,
Write a song ‘bout a girl who don’t treat him right,
I try and try with all my might but can’t say a bad thing about her,
I pray and pray the days away, but her voice keeps getting louder,
Now I’m reaching for the crown,
Bottoms up if you’re feeling down.
I should’ve learned from the whiskey songs,
I should’ve took it from old George Jones,
The bottom of the bottle’s always dry,
When you’re singing whiskey lullabies,
I should’ve listened to the words Hank spoke,
Instead of ordering a Jack and Coke,
For all the good times that done me wrong,
Give me one more and make it strong,
I should’ve learned from the whiskey songs.
I bet you think that you’re an angel cause you don’t like to fight,
But if we ain’t worth fightin’ for then who will make it right?
You’re giving up too easy, so I’m giving up on you,
Now I’m laying here in bed, crying as I read your note,
Wishing you had the guts to say the things you never wrote,
Well I guess that it’s my turn
To throw one back and let it burn.
I should’ve learned from the whiskey songs,
I should’ve took it from old George Jones,
The bottom of the bottle’s always dry,
When you’re singing whiskey lullabies,
I should’ve listened to the words Hank spoke,
Instead of ordering a Jack and Coke,
For all the good times that done me wrong,
Give me one more and make it strong,
I should’ve learned from the whiskey songs.
Well I heard another song about a man who’s had enough,
No woman there to save him or call his bluff,
I pulled over and thought about calling you,
But I knew just what that would do,
I should’ve learned from the whiskey songs,
I should’ve took it from old George Jones,
The bottom of the bottle’s always dry,
When you’re singing whiskey lullabies,
I should’ve listened to the words Hank spoke,
Instead of ordering a Jack and Coke,
For all the good times that done me wrong,
Give me one more and make it strong,
I should’ve learned from the whiskey songs.

One Good Broken Heart
02:47
|
|||
Like Noah who sailed on the wooden sea
You rid me of truth so I wouldn’t see
The pain in exchanging love’s currency
I’ve got one good broken heart
I’ve burned out the best of my broken dreams
And buried my chest in the open sea
With a love note that reads, ‘please don’t open me,
I hold one good broken heart.’
One good broken heart
Is all you’ll find in me
One good broken heart is what you’ll find
In me
One good broken heart
Is all you’ll find in me
One good broken heart is what you’ll find
In me

Supernatural Discussion
03:06
|
|||
If I could talk to the great divine
And tell her what’s been on my mind
I’d say I stole a pack of gum
When I was three, man that was dumb
I’d mention you and turn her on
To places that my heart has gone
And maybe she’d forgive me for my sins
I’d ask her questions as they’d pass
Like, ‘why does life go by so fast?’
And, ‘what the hell are we even doing here?’
Then she’d tell me not to worry
You will understand someday
This supernatural discussion we’ve been having here today
I swear I’ve talked to you before
Excuse me but my vision’s poor
My third-eye has a tendency to sleep
Maybe you could wake me up
When things get bad and life gets rough
God knows that I could use a friend to keep
Then I’d ask her for a light
Then I’d ask her for a smoke
Then I’d ask her for forgiveness
For my old passed around joke
Then she’d tell me not to worry
You will understand someday
This supernatural discussion we’ve been having here today
Here today

Unfinished Business
03:31
|
|||
I thought I knew which way the world was turning
I kept a candle burning in case you came along
When we first met seven years ago
We tried it out, we were too young to know
Now it’s unfinished business that’s keeping me awake tonight
Like the time at the drive-in, we were the last ones to leave
I drove you halfway home with the parking brake on
Distracted by the beautiful passenger queen
We went as far as the night would let us go
And honey that was quite alright with me
And though I haven’t seen your face in seven years
You look beautiful as ever tonight
Life has got a funny way of twisting our paths
And honey this little twist sure feels alright
Cause it’s unfinished business
That’s keeping us awake tonight
And I don’t know where this is going
You could say that about anything
I thought I knew which way the world was turning
